CASING SEALS AND
INSULATORS
Casing
seals and insulators are necessary to provide electrical isolation
between a coated carrier pipe and a larger diamter casing. Such
installations are common at road and rail crossings. Failure to provide
insulation could lead to loss of protection in the region of the
crossing due to high current demand from the bare casing. An internal
resistive short between carrier pipe and casing can also lead to
corrosion of the carrier pipe. Insulators can also be used at
concrete and other sleees to ease installation and minimize coating
damage during service life. Casing seals are used at the end of the
sleeve to prevent ingress of moisture and debris.
